Ex-UK ambassador to Myanmar sentenced to one year in prison

A Myanmar court has each sentenced the monster 168 th. former UK ambassador to Myanmar and her husband one year in prison, while Aung San Suu Kyi received an additional three years in prison for election fraud.

The pair were arrested last week at their home in Rangoon.

The case appears to be more of a political concern than an immigration offense. There is often no prosecution of foreigners in Myanmar.

Ms. Bowman, who is fluent in Myanmar. It is a well known member of the small expat community in Myanmar.

She served as an ambassador in Myanmar from 2002-2006 and now operates the Myanmar Center for Responsible Business, which aims to make businesses respect human rights. In Yangon

She and her husband were detained after returning from their home in Shan State to Yangon. Military officials charged the two men with Ms. Bowman was not registered as she lived at the new address.

Her husband is a well-known artist and former political prisoner. It is a member of the All Burma Student's Democratic Front, an armed opposition group formed after the 1988 student-led uprising against the junta.

The couple married and moved to London before moving back to Yangon in 2013.

The capture of the two took place. The United Kingdom recently announced sanctions against military personnel in Myanmar. This coincides with the five-year anniversary of the Myanmar military's brutal crackdown on Rohingya Muslims in the country. The 2017 raid on the Rohingya killed more than 6,000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands in the first few months, most of them crossing the border into Bangladesh.
